Compliance & accreditation

Everything a clerk, business manager or procurement officer needs to check before appointing us — stated plainly, with the limits of what we hold set out as clearly as what we do.

Before anyone appoints a contractor to work on a site used by children, someone has to satisfy themselves the contractor is competent, insured and appropriately checked. That job usually lands on a clerk or a business manager who has other things to be getting on with. This page exists so it takes two minutes rather than an exchange of emails — and so you can quote a single link in your own internal paperwork.

RPII registration

Inspections are carried out under Register of Play Inspectors International registration number OP11916, held at the routine and operational grades. RPII is the registration the UK play industry, insurers and courts recognise for inspection competence, and the register is public — you can confirm both the number and the grades yourself on the RPII register rather than take our word for it.

Work is carried out to BS EN 1176 and BS EN 1177, and to BS EN 15312, BS EN 14974 and BS EN 16630 for outdoor gyms, ball courts and skate parks respectively.

What we do not hold

We do not hold the separate RPII annual grade, so we do not carry out annual main inspections. That is a scope limitation, stated here because you need to know it before you appoint us, not after. Where your insurer or your inspection regime requires an annual main inspection, it is carried out by an Annual-grade inspector from a separate practice, which we arrange and manage on your behalf.

Insurance

Cornwall Play Safety Ltd carries £5,000,000 public liability and £1,000,000 professional indemnity cover. The two matter for different reasons and you want both: public liability covers the physical work — the repair, the surfacing, the plant on your site — while professional indemnity covers the advice, which is to say the inspection report itself and the decisions you take on the strength of it.

Because we inspect and repair, both exposures are live on the same visit, and both are covered. These limits clear the thresholds set in local authority and academy trust procurement in Cornwall, but if your standing orders specify something different, tell us at quote stage rather than after award.

Certificates are issued to a named officer on request — normally the same working day. We do not publish the schedule as an open download: it carries policy numbers, and a certificate that has quietly passed its renewal date sitting on a website is worse than no certificate at all.

Scope of works — stated up front

Knowing what a contractor does not do is as useful as knowing what they do. Ours is deliberately narrow, and everything inside it is done properly.

  • Outdoor play equipment, ball courts, skate parks and outdoor gyms — indoor soft play is outside our scope
  • Routine and operational inspections under our own registration; annual main inspections arranged independently
  • Equipment repairs, wetpour, resin-bound rubber and rubber mulch surfacing
  • Cornwall throughout, plus the Tamar border towns — Launceston, Saltash and Torpoint
  • Enquiries from further into Devon referred to an inspector better placed to cover them

Questions

Frequently asked

How do we verify your RPII registration?

Registration number OP11916 is listed on the RPII register at playinspectors.com, which is searchable by anyone. The register also shows the grades held, so you can confirm the scope as well as the registration itself.

Do you carry out annual main inspections?

No. We hold the RPII routine and operational grades, not the annual grade, so annual main inspections are outside our registration. Where you need one we arrange it with an independent Annual-grade inspector and manage the engagement, so you still deal with one contact.

Can we have copies of your certificates for our records?

Yes. Insurance certificates and RPII confirmation are issued on request to a named officer, usually within the same working day. We do not publish policy documents openly because they carry policy numbers and go out of date at renewal.

Do you inspect indoor soft play?

No. We inspect outdoor play equipment and surfacing only. Indoor soft play is a separate discipline under a different standard and is outside our scope.

Need an inspection or a repair?

Tell us the site and what's on it — written quote back the same working day.
