About us

An RPII-accredited inspection and repair business based near St Austell, built on forty years of knowing how structures wear, fail and get put right.

Forty years of looking at structures

Cornwall Play Safety was founded by Michael Stevenson after a working lifetime in construction and the trades. Four decades on site teaches two things that matter here: how materials and fixings actually wear — where rot starts, what salt air does to a weld, which movement is settlement and which is failure — and how to write a finding so the person fixing it knows exactly what to do.

It also means the repair side isn't an add-on. Putting things right properly, with the correct fixings and a finish that lasts, is the trade this business came from.

Accreditation, stated precisely

Routine and operational inspections are carried out under RPII (Register of Play Inspectors International) registration number OP11916, which covers both the routine and operational grades — the accreditation the UK play industry, insurers and courts recognise for those tiers. The number is listed on the RPII register, so you can verify it yourself rather than take our word for it. We do not hold the separate RPII Annual grade, so we do not carry out annual main inspections. Where you need one, it is carried out by an Annual-grade inspector from a separate practice, which we arrange for you.

Where we stand on inspecting and repairing

We do both, and we think that's genuinely better for you — one local contact, faster fixes, no chasing two contractors. But it only works if the reporting stays honest, so we've built in the safeguards rather than asking you to take it on trust.

  • Every defect photographed and risk-rated — you can see the fault yourself
  • The report is yours to keep, share, and get competing quotes against
  • Repair quotes separate and no-obligation
  • The annual inspection carried out independently, by a separate practice
  • We quote against any inspector's findings, not only our own

Local, deliberately

One county, done well, beats six counties done from a motorway. Being based near St Austell means every site in Cornwall — Penzance to Bude, Falmouth to Saltash — is within reach for a scheduled round or a fast response after storm damage — and it means your inspector is the same person every visit, watching the same equipment age over time rather than seeing it cold once a year.
